In beauty circles, when you hear the word microbiome, your first thought might be gut health. But as it turns out, your skin has its own ecosystem, too. It’s called the skin microbiota (or skin flora), and it’s made up of millions of good bacteria working behind the scenes to keep your complexion calm, clear, and protected.

The skin’s microbiome was also the core of the conversation at Pond’s Puddle, an immersive skin-care launch held at Nada Concepts in Poblacion, Makati. The beauty brand introduced its latest innovation: Pond’s Ultra Light Biome Gel.

“Microbiome is a general scientific term that refers to the overall bacterial environment of your body’s ecosystem. It’s particularly different for the skin, one, in the types of bacteria there are and two, it’s also in the pH level of your skin,” explains Dani De Leon Gaguan, Unilever Beauty and Wellbeing Country Research and Development lead.

She further adds: “How it functions for the skin is that there is an invisible layer of the skin that acts as its first line of defense. In essence, we call it your skin barrier’s barrier or invisible barrier.  It protects the skin, and the good bacteria help make the skin for stronger, plumper, more radiant skin.”

Through a series of talks, product demos, and skin care-focused vignettes, guests discovered how Pond’s Microbiome Technology supports the skin’s natural flora and strengthens its barrier functions. Why does it matter? Because your skin barrier is your first line of defense against pollution, stress, and premature aging. When you care for the topmost layer of your skin, it appears smoother, hydrated, and less prone to irritation.

The event also launched Pond’s newest range: Hydra-Miracle, a new skin-care range built for deep hydration without the heaviness. The best part? It’s made for hot, humid climates like the Philippines. Its gel-based formula works in harmony with your microbiome to lock in moisture and restore balance, especially when you’ve been feeling like your skin is overworked by harsh products or even city life. Guests were also treated to the unveiling of Pond’s global brand ambassadors Jihyo and Tzuyu of K-pop girl group TWICE.

“We’ve had more than 18 years on microbiomes. It’s the first time we’ve really put it into an innovation, which is what we’re excited about,” shares De Leon-Gaguan. “The Microbiome Technology that we have in the Hydra-Miracle range is a combination of prebiotics and CERA-HYAMINO™ Technology. Prebiotics are a type of food for good bacteria and sort of ward away bad bacteria as well.” She further adds that CERA-HYAMINO™ contains pro-ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and amino acids, which also help restore the balance of the skin microbiome.

The Pond’s Hydra-Miracle is formulated with CERA-HYAMINO™, a unique complex designed to boost skin barrier resilience while delivering a long-lasting moisture surge. It also features hyaluron, capable of holding water up to 1000 times its weight, and ceramide to help fortify the skin barrier and lock hydration in.
