Mirror, Mirrored: Reflecting on the Beauty of Aging
What beauty reveals when time becomes the artist.

Lash Out: Subtle color play that speaks volumes—at any age.

Colored lashes are back, and deep burgundy or brown are the alternatives to black for when you want a softer look. Makeup artist Lala Flores added a touch of burgundy liner on iconic model Tina Maristela Ocampo’s lower lashline

Trust Maristela Ocampo to take a classic look and make it her own. Flores matched her mood by adding several slicks of vinyl red gloss for a mirror-like finish.
To keep lips from feathering, Flores recommends proper prep, including a hydrating balm, using a lip liner, choosing a matte or satin-finish lipstick, and doing the blot-and-layer technique: Blot the first layer with tissue, dust with translucent powder, and apply a second coat of color.

Time Wears Wine Well: Deep hues for deeper confidence.

A vampy lip—a deep, dark red shade that’s almost black—is an homage to the 1920s. Giving this look a modern spin, Maristela Ocampo stuns in a dark lip with a high-frosted center, proving that glamour doesn’t get lost with time. To balance the bold makeup look, Flores made sure to start with a radiant base: “Prepping mature skin for makeup is all about hydration.” She suggests using products, such as rose water and a rich, emollient moisturizer.

Eyes That Remember: Where shadow traces stories, not years.

A smoky eye is timeless. Maristela Ocampo, a pillar in the fashion industry and whose work in the 1970s and the 80s defined the generation, knows this well.
Flores shows us that with the right technique, bold makeup can be worn, no matter your age. For this look, Flores focused on an application technique that lifts, not drags: “Blend your darker shadow slightly above the crease and lift outward. Keep the lower lash line smudged, not heavy, to avoid drooping.”

A Line Rewritten: The same statement made wiser.

You can try on a trend no matter your age, with a few adjustments. In this case, a grungy eyeliner look needs softness and some extra prep. To create a base for this softly-diffused, all-over liner, Flores prepped the skin: “Apply a lightweight, but hydrating eye cream to reduce creasing around the eyes,” she says. “Tap gently with your ring finger—no rubbing.”
