At the Cream Silk Pro-Collective Shape Series Masterclass,  experts, hairstylists, and celebrity muses showcased the science and best-kept techniques for achieving everyday volume.

There’s always that one day (maybe even two or three) when your hair just doesn’t want to set the way you want it to. You leave the house with freshly styled hair, only for it to fall flat before lunchtime. Or you spend extra time styling it, only for the humidity to undo your hard work by the time you reach the office or your first meeting.

In the Philippines’ heat and humidity, volume is often the first thing to disappear. The instinct is to reach for more heat, more styling products, or another round of teasing—but that cycle can leave hair feeling dry, dull, and even harder to style over time. So if the secret to long-lasting volume isn’t simply adding more product, what is?

According to Unilever Philippines Beauty and Wellness R&D Country Lead Daniella De-Leon, it starts long before the blow dryer does: with hydration.

“Imagine that your hair is not healthy, meaning it’s overtreated, overprocessed, the cuticles are jagged, it will not withstand the likes of blowdrying, or having your curlers on. That’s why you need hydration and nourishment to make your hair healthy in the first place so that it can actually withstand a lot of styles, a lot of that tugging, that heat, and the process overall.”

This was just one of the many insights shared during the Cream Silk Pro-Collective Shape Series Masterclass event held at One Ayala, Makati. For two days, hair experts, sought-after hairstylists, and celebrity muses came together to explore how Filipinas can achieve a voluminous hairdo at the comfort of their own home. From live demonstrations to on-ground washing and styling sessions, the event aimed to give guests a different perspective on hair care, one that not only adapts to the humid climate but also brings out a sense of confidence that lasts.

“At the base of things,
Cream Silk is all about nourishing Filipina hair,”

De-Leon adds. “The first Shape Series was all about straight, sleek hair because we know a lot of Filipinas want that look, and the same idea applies to volumized and hydrated hair. Its foundations are rooted in hair health, but it’s about achieving that look through different technologies, textures, products, and performance.”

On the first day, De-Leon elaborated on the science of volume and the biological factors that often lead to flat and stubborn hair. Throughout the discussion, she highlighted how Cream Silk’s Hydration and Volume Salon Renewal Mask provides that much-needed nourishment while giving users the room to style their hair with ease. Hairstylist Valerie Corpuz, alongside beauty creator Bella Racelis, later took the stage to put those claims to the test, showcasing a simple teasing technique while shedding light on common misconceptions behind everyday hair care.

“Many people would think that you’re not supposed to use conditioner every day, but it’s actually the opposite in that you’re not supposed to use shampoo every day because of how harsh it can be,” shares Corpuz. She also expresses how preparation is their key to achieving and maintaining a voluminous look, relating it to makeup and how creating a neutral base can be what holds everything in place throughout the day.

The second day of the event, however, focused on the science and technique to creating and nurturing hair volume for that 90s blowout hairstyle. Here, Unilever Philippines Cream Silk R&D Lead Hanna Diane Coritico led an in-depth discussion on how hairstyling preferences have changed between generations. “In recent years, there has been a shift in desire beyond just neatly straight hair. It’s not just about sleek, straight, bagsak look anymore, but consumers actually want to embrace the natural shape of their hair.”

She also expounds on how environmental factors like air pollution, sunlight, and heightened oil buildup on the scalp have made it difficult to maintain a freshly styled hairdo throughout the day, and how it has led the brand to focus on creating products that cleanse and hydrate the hair. Moments later, hairstylist Renz Pangilinan, together with international drag queen Marina Summers, demonstrated the method to the classic blowout hairstyle after using Cream Silk’s Hydration and Volume Salon Renewal Mask.

“I think that this year, girls would like to have more natural and moving hair; No more of the stiff, unhealthy, and overly fixed feel that hair used to be like,” Pangilinan says. “One mistake that people often assume with volumized hair is that it’s associated with being dead or overly styled, which isn’t the truth. We need that hydration for that healthy-looking and more volumized hair. And, at the same time, we need that shine; you can’t just have volume without it looking shiny and healthy too.”

For Cream Silk, acquiring a voluminous yet hydrated look goes beyond just demonstrating how it can be done at home. Throughout the two-day event, the brand aims to teach a different purpose to everyday hair care, one that instills confidence through proper routines, with experts who share their techniques for the everyday Filipina’s lifestyle.

“What we really want to happen with the Cream Silk Pro-Collective Shape Series Masterclass is to bring together innovation, the top hair expert, industry practices, and knowledge really at the fingertips of the Filipina,” says De-Leon. “In this age, it’s all about knowledge, and being able to present that to them ensures that they get the right information straight that’s up-to-date, and from the source.”
