Thinking about Skin-Quality Injectables? Start Here.
A board-certified cosmetic surgeon’s guide to Restylane Skinboosters vs. Sculptra—hydration, texture, and long-term firmness—with Dr. Z Teo.
When do you know it’s time for injectables? It’s a question that many adults may have asked themselves at one point—and it’s not just reserved for a specific age bracket anymore. For some, it’s about dullness that no skin-care routine seems to fix. For others, it’s the start of fine lines or an overall loss of bounce in the skin.
Wherever you fall on that spectrum, injectables today aren’t just tools for “reversing time,” they are seen as a means to enhance skin quality and address concerns in a subtle, natural-looking way.
When is the right time to start with injectables?
According to Z Teo, MD, a Singaporean board-certified cosmetic surgeon and co-founder of Aivee Clinic, it’s less about age and more about your skin’s needs and your desire to be proactive. “In today’s age, consumers are focused on achieving immediate, natural, glowing and hydrated skin,” says Dr. Teo.
“More and more people are going beyond traditional skincare, they are now seeking advanced treatments that not only address their specific skin concerns but also simplify their beauty routines.”
What are skin-quality injectables?
Unlike traditional dermal fillers that volumize specific areas, Restylane Skinboosters and Sculptra fall under a category of injectables that focus on skin quality. These treatments work on a cellular level to improve hydration, texture, firmness, and elasticity from within.
Restylane Skinboosters is a hyaluronic acid-based (HA) injectable that mimics the body’s naturally produced HA. “It’s the only HA skin quality injectable clinically proven to provide six key skin quality benefits,” says Dr. Teo. “Deep hydration, reduced pores, fewer fine lines and wrinkles, improved skin texture, even skin tone, and reduced acne scarring.”

In contrast, Sculptra is the first FDA-approved regenerative biostimulator that goes beyond surface hydration. “It works deep within the skin using PLLA-SCA (poly-L-lactic acid) to stimulate the body’s own collagen and elastin production,” Dr. Teo explains. This means longer-term collagen support, smoothing deep lines and restoring firmness over time.

What concerns do they address and which one should you choose?
According to Dr. Teo, Restylane Skinboosters is recommended for patients with dullness, dryness, large pores, post-acne marks, and early signs of aging. It’s often used preventatively in younger patients who want to maintain their skin’s glow and hydration. Results can last up to 15 months with just 1-3 sessions spaced four weeks apart.
On the other hand, Sculptra is ideal for more mature skin with visible sagging, laxity, or deep nasolabial folds. “There is no specific age range,” notes Dr. Teo. “The choice depends on individual skin concerns. In fact, these can be used together to deliver both an immediate glow and long-term skin firmness.”
He also shares that at Aivee Clinic, every patient undergoes a comprehensive assessment. “We conduct a thorough facial assessment and skin analysis to understand each patient’s unique needs,” he adds.
What does a session look like? What can I expect?

Both treatments are quick and generally well-tolerated. “When it comes to injectables, a deep understanding of facial anatomy is essential,” says Dr. Teo. “All our doctors undergo rigorous training to ensure both safety and natural-looking results.”
While downtime is minimal, patients may experience mild redness, swelling, or bruising, though many report no downtime at all.
Final thoughts
As more people seek subtle, science-backed solutions to maintain healthy, radiant skin, guidance becomes just as important as the treatment itself. “The trend now is going back to natural beauty or undetectable aesthetics,” says Dr. Teo. Initiatives like Journey of Glow by Galderma help demystify injectables, providing credible information to help patients make informed, confident choices.
