The Art of Understated Beauty at Sophie Hong’s Fashion Week Asia Show
The Taiwanese designer’s everyday approach to clothes found its beauty counterpart in luminous skin, touches of color, and sculptural topknots.

Some 40 years after launching her eponymous label, Taiwanese designer Sophie Hong brought her vision to the Philippine stage at Palacio de Memoria for the inaugural Fashion Week Asia 2026.
“I think it’s about life. These garments are made for us—we wear them every day; we preserve them; we have what we have,” Hong said when asked about the collection in an exclusive interview with Allure Philippines.
At a time when easy dressing is trend du jour, Hong has made a case for clothes that are as artful as they are wearable. All of these were analogous to the beauty direction, led by makeup artist Gery Penaso for MAC Cosmetics, alongside hairstylists from Cream Silk. The makeup looks were a study in minimalism, as models—strong as they looked—still left room for the clothes to take center stage. They sported a barely-there complexion that allowed the skin to especially peek through, with some subtle touches of color to the eyes and lips bringing warmth to the face.
Perhaps a stand out to anyone who watched until the final show were the female models that wore their hair in almost scuptural topknots, or smooth, loose styles to complement their individual face shapes. Men were also a study in contrast, as they walked down the runway in an array of hair lengths. This is Hong’s lived-in sensibility in study, as it follows texture, friction, and everyday of the people she designs for.

The hair carried the collection’s lived-in themes. The hair was swept into a clean, sculptural topknot, pulled taut at the roots to bring the features into focus. Its sleek finish offered a sharper counterpoint to the collection’s fluid silhouettes.

The makeup stayed minimal, as they let the skin’s natural texture and undertones show through beneath a sheer, radiant base. Coverage was kept sheer, concealing only where needed, while soft neutral washes around the eyes and naturally groomed brows brought gentle definition to the features.

Glossy nude-rose lips lent a soft wash of color and a subtle sheen to the beauty looks. The rosy hue enhanced the models’ natural lip color, and the dewy finish kept the effect fresh as the layered garments took center stage.
