On your phone, you can switch what you’re watching with an effortless swipe, barely moving a muscle. As a member of Gen Z, I admit to succumbing to doomscrolling, especially on TikTok, and sometimes catch myself becoming more aware that my attention span is slowly diminishing. It’s getting harder to be piqued by anything on the internet.
But Singaporean content creator Darshen, with his booming voice, distinct accent, and unmistakable energy, will stop you in your tracks while you’re mindlessly scrolling. His viral posts on the latest F-beauty discovery—his admitted “budols”—are the kind of content you’ll watch until the very end.
The former flight attendant now jets between Singapore, the Philippines, and everywhere else in the world for leisure. At a shoot with Allure Philippines, Darshen shows off his infectious joie de vivre. And in an exclusive one-on-one interview, he reveals the beauty and skin care essentials inside his ludicrously capacious bag, and his perspective on Singapore’s beauty landscape.
Read on for Darshen’s beauty and skin care essentials.
Deodorant
Darshen emphasizes that using deodorant is part of his routine and he carries one in his bag. “I use this Singapore brand called Blunies,” he says. For him, stepping out of the house without swiping one on is simply not an option.
“I don’t know how some people have big balls to get out of the house without even showering in the morning and don’t even spray anything. At least use deodorant for crying out loud.”
He adds that he is equally mindful of it on a personal level. “I always have to make sure that my armpits are not smelly. When you have smelly armpits, would you dare to hug a person? No, right? I always have deodorant,” he exclaims.
Skin serums
He also shares his love for taking care of his skin. “Another great thing that I use is this,” he says, showing off the Great Barrier Relief skin serum from Crave Beauty. “It’s founded by this American-Korean who’s also a friend of mine. Her name is Leah Yu,” he shares.
Darshen believes this product suits Filipinos’ skin as well, “Especially because it’s so humid here, and also [in] Singapore as well.” he says. “So this is great. I love it,” he adds. Aside from Crave Beauty, Darshen also reveals, in his own words, his biggest secret to why his skin looks good. “It’s Tirtir’s Ceramic Milk Ampoule. This is the one thing that makes the skin very glowy and dewy, and I love it.”
Setting mist
He also shares that he uses the Cloud Set mist from Kosas. “I know that this is not available yet in the Philippines, but like Crave Beauty, they keep their ingredients natural,” he says.
Sunscreen
Aside from the setting mist from Kosas, he also has their DreamBeam sunscreen in Golden Glow. “Their SPF is also tinted as well, and this is the one that makes the skin natural and glowy,” he adds.
On beauty lessons he’s learned through time
As someone who frequently shops for beauty and skin care products, Darshen shares how he plans his purchases. “What’s important to me when buying skin care products is to find things that suit your skin,” he explains.
Aside from understanding more about what his skin needs, he has also learned about the bigger impact the beauty industry has made, especially in his home country. “The most important thing that I’ve learned about the Singapore beauty industry is inclusivity. I think that is very, very important,” he says.
For Darshen, he has seen how Singaporean brands try to be as inclusive as possible. In today’s world, inclusivity should be more than just a token. It should be a commitment.
