Bigger. Louder. Fiercer. Each year, the Philippines’ annual Pride march just gets better. A protest through and through, the queer community’s existence is its biggest form of resistance. And 57 years since the Stonewall uprising in New York City, the fight for visibility and dignity is far from over, especially here in the Philippines where legal safeguards for the community still leave much to be desired.

At the annual Love Laban Pride Festival, the biggest Pride gathering in the Philippines and Southeast Asia, held at the University of the Philippines Diliman, people from all walks of life–advocates, allies, and proud members of the LGBTQIA+ community marched together. And if there’s one thing that this movement has taught us, it is that queer joy is a form of resistance too.

In celebration of the beauty of resistance, Allure Philippines rounds up the beauty looks that stopped us in our tracks—from rhinestones and glitter to every imaginable interpretation of rainbow makeup there is no shortage of creativity. Because beauty makes a statement, and at Pride, it speaks loudly.

Feminine edge

Is it possible to be a little bit edgy, undeniably cool, but still feminine at the same time? Beauty queen, actress, and music artist Michelle Dee shows how you can totally do it.

Dee went experimental with her signature warm bronzy makeup with a cool-toned eyeliner and bright pink blush finished off with two-toned glossy nude lips created by makeup artist Dave Quiambao. The ultra-feminine glam was a stark contrast to her blonde mullet cut expertly coiffed by hairstylist Nelbert Seboy. Dee proves that you don’t have to choose between your feminine and masculine side, because you can totally rock both energies at the same time.

Fairycore glam

Allure Philippines Zen Z cover star and Pinoy Big Brother Big Winner Mika Salamanca’s Pride March look makes a case for whimsy to be part of everyone’s vocabulary again.

We can all learn a thing or two from her softly sculpted eyebrows, precise cat eyeliner, and the seamless placement of contour, blush, and highlight perfectly showcased by her half-up half-down hairstyle. And don’t forget the berry-red gradient lip to finish off the look. That is so Gen Z of her.

Rainbow cybercore

Some looks are so good they become a trend, and some looks are so powerful because they’re original. Content creator and fashion designer Johan Kyle mastered how to turn the ubiquitous colors of the rainbow into something that’s never been done before, with a makeup look that’s reminiscent of a thermal camera—trippy and psychedelic, with colors extending down the neck and all the way to the hands for full impact—and hair peppered in silver.

This hair and makeup fantasy was created by beauty content creator and Allure Face Card Art Torrontegui. This tandem brings avant-garde beauty to the next level.

Jewel-toned beat

There’s no better time to embrace color than now. Take it from Filipina actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith, who mixed emerald and amethyst tones into her Pride March look.

If you want to recreate this look, make the eyes the focus of the makeup look. Choose an emerald-toned eyeshadow like hers, but pull back on the rest of the glam. As seen on Curtis-Smith, she had well-groomed brows, warm contour, dusty rose blush, and nude glossy lips. Her hair look was also major goals with her brunette blowout, which withstood the humidity of Philippine weather.

Fierce feline

Music artist and theater actor Paul Pablo leaned into drama and went full gothic anime feline for his Love Laban performance makeup look.

Makeup artist Soenny Lime painted the performer’s eyes with bright scarlet eyeshadow, paired it with mauve blush, and finished the look with a wine-red lip. The hair also makes a statement, with sections sculpted into shapes reminiscent of cat ears, styled by hairstylist Garnet Esperon. With a standout makeup look like this, it’s hard to miss Pablo on stage—even from the very back of the crowd. Now that’s how you make a statement.

Lilac flush

In a sea of pinks and roses, how do you stand out? We say, take a chance on violet. Take a look at content creator Yani Villarosa, who tapped makeup artist Ida Siasoco, who leaned into purple tones with her eyeshadow, matching the soft lilac blush on her cheeks, accented by rhinestones. A glossy brick-toned lip pulls the look together.

Meanwhile, hairstylist Reese Roque styled Villarosa’s hair into an upturned bob. This look is proof that cool tones, not just warm, totally suit morenas.

Pretty boy glow

P-pop boy group AJAA brings boyish charm and fun to the annual Pride Festival. Each of the AJAA boys Ash, JC, Axl, and Alex shows how boys can totally rock makeup because makeup knows no gender.

Take a look at how they all wore a dewy base that brings out the natural sheen of the skin, well-groomed eyebrows, soft eye makeup, and barely-there tinted lips. Zoom in a little more and you’ll see that each of them had a rainbow patch painted on in various shapes, from a little star to a cute heart.

Rainbow maximalist

Who else to trust in delivering larger-than-life looks than a fabulous drag queen? Drag artist and singer Tiny Deluxe was not afraid to pack on the color for her impeccable makeup look.

Deluxe shared on Instagram how this rainbow-gradient glittery makeup look, with bright fuchsia blush, was inspired by beauty content creator Kolbi. The drag artist also generously revealed how to achieve the look with a vinyl two-toned red lip using the GRWM Cosmetics lip liner in Taylor and Power Gloss in Kitten. For the adventurous and unapologetic, this is the blueprint.
